Vietnam’s earnings from footwear exports in the first seven months of this year increased by 14.87 per cent over the same period last year. That is considered a good result. However, foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises accounted for 76 per cent of the total earnings from footwear exports, so domestic enterprises must try to speed up their export.

In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam’s footwear export was estimated at 148.7 million pairs, up by 11.9 per cent over the same period last year.

Vietnam is on the last round of talks to enter Tran- Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement and is on the way to participate to Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with members of EU. This is an opportunity for attracting investment in leather and footwear industry as well as for approaching advanced technology and big footwear enterprises all over the world.
